How to Hire a Caring Spa Therapist or Spa Concierge

When it comes down to what is the spa business really about?  The guest? The experience?  Caring for a guest?  And how do you hire the right therapists or spa concierges, people who truly care about the experience or care about the guest.  Below are five (5) questions that are used in the interview process that assist in finding just the right person for the job.

 

1. What is the intention of your work?
2. When was the last time you cared for someone?
3. Give me an example of how you cared for someone.
4. Tell me when you disappointed someone.
5. Tell me the 5 things you’d like to keep working on.

These are definitely not normal human resource job interview questions.  In the spa industry, we need to care about others and you must have the right people on the bus (Jim Collins, “Good to Great”).  Without caring people, someone who cannot remember the last time they cared for someone, or how they did it, the spa cannot provide the level of service needed for a great guest experience.
