Please Don’t Check Me Out Before I’ve Dined

Where do you pay first and then get your food?
Answer: Fast Food Restaurants

When you go to out for an elegant dinner, does the waiter ask you to pay before you have dined?
Answer:I think not.

So why do some spas ask you to pay for your massage before you have it?
Answer: Because they’ve always done it this way?

I have been to spas all over the world and some will ask you to pay before the service.  Not only do they ask you to pay, they ask you to leave gratuity too.  Now, not for nothing, what kind of manners and etiquette is that.  You leave a gratuity because you received great service…how do you know in advance that you are going to receive great service?  Answer:  You don’t unless you are psychic.

Not only do I think it is an etiquette breach to check out a client before the service, but why limit what you are serving.  Can you just imagine being at a gourmet restaurant and listening to the waiter go…and

” Yes, today, you will only be able to eat the rare tuna with broccoli side and french potatoes, unfortunately, that is what we booked you for.  Oh, you wanted to try the dessert too…I’m sorry, you were not booked for that. ”

How can you service the client if you check them out in advance?  What if they change their mind? What if they want to add on services?  What if they want to buy what the therapist recommends?  Please don’t check me out in advance…I hate missing a great treatment.  You see, I might have booked just a spa massage, and your massage therapist might think I need the super duper ka-wowy massage with icing on top.  And you know I would pay double, if they told me it was that great.  See what you’re missing…
